What is Somatic Experiencing®
Somatic Experiencing® relieves the symptoms of trauma and stress in a gentle yet profoundly effective way by deactivating unresolved survival energies.
The slower
you go,
the faster
the work.
The gentler
you go,
the deeper the work.
Somatic Experiencing® (SE™) is a body-oriented approach to healing stress and trauma. It works by helping the nervous system complete self-protective responses and release the survival energy that gets trapped in the body when those responses are interrupted. Through gentle and skilled guidance, you’ll build your capacity to tolerate uncomfortable sensations and long-suppressed emotions—at a pace that feels right for you.
Trauma is like energy all dressed up
with no place to go
When we face threatening or overwhelming situations, our bodies instinctively prepare to fight or flee. But when those responses are cut short—due to shock, immobilization, or circumstances beyond our control—the powerful energy that was mobilized doesn’t just go away. It stays stuck in the body, often below our conscious awareness.
Over time, this stored survival energy can show up as chronic tension, hypervigilance, emotional overwhelm, or physical symptoms. The nervous system becomes stuck in patterns of high alert or shutdown, making it hard to feel calm, safe, or fully present.
The nervous system acts as the communication bridge between brain and body. It shapes how we think, feel, move, and interpret the world around us. When we support it in coming back into balance, every aspect of how we experience life can begin to shift.
Somatic Experiencing helps restore a felt sense of safety in the body. As the nervous system resets and incomplete responses are released, you may begin to feel more grounded, connected, and alive. From this foundation, a more authentic and vibrant way of being can naturally emerge.
Unlike traditional talk therapy, SE focuses less on retelling stories and more on what’s happening in your body right now. You don’t need to re-live traumatic memories. Instead, we gently follow subtle signs—like breath, temperature shifts, or muscle movements—that let us know your system is ready to release old tension.
Together, we’ll move at a pace that honors your body’s timing. I’ll guide you through a process called titration, which means we work with small, manageable pieces of sensation or emotion. This helps prevent overwhelm and allows your system to integrate change gradually and sustainably.
One of my roles is to offer a grounded, attuned presence as we track your experience in real time. I’ll support you in staying connected to your body, your strengths, and your inner resources. We’re not here to push through discomfort, but to gently explore what’s ready to shift—always in collaboration, and always with care.
Somatic Experiencing is a powerful support for a wide range of experiences—from acute trauma and chronic stress to early developmental wounds, medical procedures, or simply feeling “stuck” in traditional therapy. No matter your story, this work offers a compassionate path toward healing by helping your body do what it was always meant to do: complete, resolve, and return to balance.

What is a
Session Like?
Somatic Experiencing® sessions are designed to uncover and heal what gets in the way of fully embodying your goals, values, and deeper sense of self.
This is a collaborative process, where we slow down enough to really listen to what your body has to say.
We typically begin with seated dialogue, where you’re invited to share whatever feels alive or important in the moment. As you speak, I may gently guide your attention inward—asking what you notice in your body. This simple act of tuning in is a skill we build together, gradually strengthening your capacity to sense and trust your internal experience.
This shift from storytelling into sensing helps us move out of the thinking mind and into the body—where the real transformation happens. The body holds the residue of unfinished experiences, and with time, space, and compassionate awareness, it begins to reveal what it’s been holding onto. Your story is welcome here; we use it not as something to dissect, but as a doorway into the deeper layers of your experience.
It’s important to know that trauma doesn’t live in the event itself—it lives in the nervous system’s response to what happened. Because of this, we don’t focus on rehashing the story. Instead, we work “bottom-up,” starting with the body and allowing the nervous system to guide the healing. This often-accessed but frequently overlooked route can be the key to unlocking real, lasting change.
Rather than analyzing or forcing a breakthrough, we create the conditions for your body’s innate intelligence to do what it knows how to do—complete unfinished responses, discharge stored stress, and restore balance. This process is gentle but powerful.
Over time, you’ll begin to develop a deeply personal understanding of your own nervous system: how it responds to stress, how it signals safety or danger, and—most importantly—how it begins to regulate, release, and return to equilibrium.
The aim isn’t to “fix” you, but to help you reconnect with the natural wisdom of your body. From there, freedom, clarity, and a greater sense of aliveness become possible.
